  • 08/21/2017
  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Kings Landing Park

Registration

Registration is closed

Free event for all ages

Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, along with a picnic and bask in this solar phenomenon. The partial eclipse begins at 1:15; maximum eclipse at 2:42 pm, when about 80% of the sun will be obscured by the moon. Finally the eclipse ends at 4:01. You can come for all or part of the event.

We'll safely observe the eclipse using pin-hole cameras--bring an empty cereal box (or similar size box) to make your own. A limited number of solar eclipse glasses will be available.

We'll also conduct temperature measurements as part of NASA's GLOBE Observer program. (optional: download the app to your phone or tablet to add your own observations: https://observer.globe.gov/about/get-the-app for details).

Location: Kings Landing Park. We'll be set up in the field in front of Wisner Hall and we'll have activities around the pavilion.

Registration is not necessary.

The schedule of events is subject to changed based on the status of the coronavirus response, weather, staffing, and other situations that may arise. If Calvert Nature Society or Calvert County Natural Resources Division cancels a program, a full refund will be issued.
