Beginning in December 2016, and throughout 2017, selective timber harvest activities will occur. Visitors should take extreme caution when hiking the property.

In 1986, Calvert County received a generous gift of land from the estate of Bennett O. Hughes. As a condition of the gift, the county agreed that 196-acre property would be maintained as a tree farm to demonstrate sustainable forest management.

Numerous trails meander through the forests, taking hikers through various successional stages of forest growth, meadows, and around a bucolic fishing pond. 

Hikers are warned that the trails are not marked. A trail map is in development.

Calvert Nature Society is dedicated to the protection and preservation of Calvert County‚Äôs natural heritage and the creation of an environmentally literate and aware community.
