Welcome to Camp letter and packing list are HERE

For children entering grades 6-8 in Fall 2021

Each day of this camp will bring campers up-close and personal with the Patuxent River and the creeks that flow into it. Campers will learn paddling fundamentals: safety, strokes, and rescues - as well as learning firsthand about water quality and the natural history of the river.

Participants must be able to swim and be strong enough to paddle their own kayak.  We will not be using the tandem/double kayaks this year.

Naturalist in Charge: Tania Gale

Daily Schedule
Monday: Battle Creek Cypress Swamp
Tuesday:  Kings Landing Park
Wednesday: Kings Landing Park
Thursday:  Lower Marlboro Pier
Friday: Lower Marlboro Pier

"Welcome to Camp" letter, packing list, and waivers can be found here in early June

Fee per camper:

Nonmembers:  $180

COVID Policies and Procedures

The Calvert Nature Society has developed policies and procedures for public program operations based on state and CDC guidelines.

These policies are effective until otherwise rescinded:

  • All participants over the age of 2 (including parents) must wear a mask when social distancing is not possible. Participants must provide their own masks.
  • Please consider the safety, health, and well-being of all participants in our programs and stay home if the participant is ill. Full refunds will be given for cancellations due to health concerns.
  • Prior to participation in any Society sponsored program,  we will ask each individual, to if under 18 a parent, to complete a participant waiver.

Please download and complete the waiver prior to the program. You may complete it online and email to CypressSwamp@CalvertCountyMD.gov, or print it and bring to the program.

The waiver needs to be completed for each in-person program.

Please read our full policy statement and waiver.

Registration Opening Dates

Programs have staggered registration dates. We advertise programs before registration opens which is why you may see that registration is closed, yet there are spaces available.  See details >

The schedule of events is subject to changed based on the status of the coronavirus response, weather, staffing, and other situations that may arise. If Calvert Nature Society or Calvert County Natural Resources Division cancels a program, a full refund will be issued.
