Come learn how you can document orchid species found in Calvert County for the purpose of conserving native orchids found in the U.S. and Canada. (Read more about this project)

The Calvert Stewards volunteers identify locations of orchids, document both through field notes and iNaturalist observations.  We'll also spend time looking for other spring flowers and wildlife to map via iNaturalist for the City Nature Challenge.

We hope you'll stay for the afternoon City Nature Challenge Hike too

Current Calvert Stewards should respond to the Opportunity in order to track their volunteer hours:  Calvert Orchid Research Project Training

Location: Flag Ponds Nature Park

We will meet at the intersection of the Beach Road and Duncan Pond Trail. Please plan for the time it will take to walk down to the meeting place.

To prepare for the training, please bring a fully charged smart phone with the iNaturalist app installed (or a fully charged digital camera). You may set up your own iNaturalist account, or we will provide you with the Calvert Orchids log in information at the workshop.

To download the app and create your account. Remember your password!

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Bring a water bottle and trail snacks. A handlens can be helpful. Even with a small chance of rain, this workshop will still be held. Bring your raincoat just in case.

Consider joining the iNaturalist Training on 4/18, 1:00 p.m. at Kings Landing Park

Who are Calvert Stewards? They are the volunteer corps of the Calvert Nature Society and the Calvert County Natural Resources Division. More information can be found on the Calvert Stewards Volunteer Page.
