Animals in Winter: Insects

  • 01/11/2026
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary

Registration

Register

For individuals and families of all ages.

In winter, insects use different survival strategies, primarily through hibernation, migration, or finding shelter in places like leaf litter, soil, or human homes to slow down their metabolism (hello stinkbugs!). Some species produce natural antifreeze (like glycerol) to prevent freezing, while others avoid freezing by hiding. Still others may overwinter as eggs, larvae, pupae, or adults.

Learn all about it in this workshop that will take place both indoors and out.

Location: Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center

Naturalist: Maggie Bennett
